Which parawing to choose for beginners in 2026? Comparison of the models
Updated October 15, 2026 · by GlissEvolution · 10 min read
Choosing a parawing starts with its size, then its construction, and finally the brand. We stock fifteen models from seven brands at the Pornichet shop, with prices ranging from €575 to €1,799 as of October 15, 2026. Here’s how to pick your first wing, complete with the wind range for each size as published by the manufacturers.
A parawing (or pocket wing) is a small, flexible wing with lines, without an inflatable strut, held by a short handle. It is used to take off and go upwind on a foil. It then folds in flight to let the rider glide freely downwind or in the swell. Most are single-skin (a single fabric surface), one is a double-skin foil kite, and ALTIS offers a hybrid design between the two.
Quick Guidelines
- You already know how to foil, whether it's wing, surf foil, or downwind. That's the real prerequisite. If not, learn to foil first.
- For your first wing, if you weigh 70 to 85 kg and the wind is 15 to 25 knots, aim for around a 4 m² wing, regardless of the brand.
- For beginners, look for a single-skin parawing that the manufacturer rates as "beginner to advanced." Top choices include the Ozone Pocket Rocket V2, F-One Quest, Flysurfer POW 2, and ALTIS Focus.
- On a tight budget? Check out the 2025 models on sale, like the Ozone Pocket Rocket 2025 starting from €575, or the F-One Frigate V1 from €599.
- Save the "expert" wings, such as the Ozone Afterburner, Flysurfer ZAP, or ALTIS Focus Hybrid, for your second wing.

Can you start parawing without knowing how to foil?
No, and we want to make that clear right away. A parawing doesn't provide lift like an inflatable wing. Once folded, there's nothing left in your hands, and at take-off, the wing already requires you to pump the foil with your legs. All manufacturers in the table below design it for foilers. Flysurfer talks about "beginner to pro" for the POW 2, but that means beginner in parawing, not beginner in foiling.
The most common rider profile we see is a wingfoiler who has been flying for one or two seasons, can jibe in flight, already surfs in freefly with the wing held neutral in one hand, and wants an even purer surf, with nothing in their hands. Surf foilers and downwinders also use parawings to take off without a boat or paddle. Kitesurfers have an advantage in steering the wing (the lines, the wind window), but a handicap: they don't necessarily have the foiler's leg strength.
If you are starting from scratch, read How to get started in parawing? Prerequisites, steps, budget and spots first: it covers the foil prerequisites, the first sessions and the full budget.
Single skin, hybrid, or cell: which one to start with?
Three construction families coexist in this category. For a first wing, the answer is single skin.
Single skin: the standard
These parawings feature a single fabric surface, held in shape by ribs and a short bridle. They are incredibly lightweight (an F-One Quest 2 m² with the bar weighs just 460 g, while an Ozone Afterburner 6.5 m² is 850 g). They fold up in seconds and relaunch from the water effortlessly. The Ozone Pocket Rocket V2, PowerPack, and Afterburner, F-One Quest and Frigate V2, Flysurfer POW 2, Duotone Stash, CORE Lotus, Eleveight Chute V1, and ALTIS Focus are all single-skin parawings.
Hybrid: a bit more performance
ALTIS calls its Focus Hybrid a "hybrid design." Part of the wing is doubled to maintain a cleaner profile upwind. ALTIS reserves it for intermediate to expert riders, while the classic Focus is advertised for beginner to expert. It's the only hybrid in this category.
Double skin cell: for speed
The Flysurfer ZAP has two surfaces and open cells, just like a foil kite. This design delivers more efficiency, higher speed, and better upwind hold. Flysurfer reserves it for experts and professionals. This is not a wing for learning to pack.
| Construction | What It Changes | Who is it for? | Models in stock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single skin | Lightweight, packs quickly, relaunches easily | First parawing | Pocket Rocket V2, Quest, POW 2, Stash, Focus, Frigate V2, Chute V1, PowerPack, Afterburner |
| Hybrid | More stable upwind profile, slightly heavier | Intermediate riders looking for excellent upwind performance. | ALTIS Focus Hybrid |
| Double-skin foil kite. | Expect speed and efficiency. Be aware that packing this wing is a bit more technical. | Experts | Flysurfer ZAP (available on order). |
What parawing size is right for your weight and the wind?
Manufacturers provide a wind range for each parawing size, based on a reference rider's weight: 75 kg for ALTIS, 80 kg for Ozone. If you're heavier, go up a size. If you're lighter, go down a size. A high-volume board or a high-lift foil can also let you drop down a size.
To help you compare brands, we've highlighted the "4 m²" size from each range. This is the size we most often recommend as a first wing for riders weighing between 70 and 85 kg.
| Model | Size | Advertised wind range. | Reference rider. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ozone Pocket Rocket V2 | 4.3 m² | 13 to 27 knots. | 80 kg |
| F-One Quest 2026 | 4 m² | 17 to 28 knots. | not specified |
| F-One Frigate V2 2027 | 4 m² | 16 to 32 knots. | not specified |
| Flysurfer POW 2 2026 | 4 m² | 14 to 23 knots. | not specified |
| Duotone Stash 2026 | 4 m² | 15 to 25 knots. | not specified |
| ALTIS Focus | 4 m² | 16 to 27 knots. | 75 kg |
| CORE Lotus | 4 m² | 15 to 27 knots. | not specified |
| Ozone PowerPack 2026 | 4.3 m² | 13 to 28 knots. | 80 kg |
| Ozone Afterburner 2026. | 4.3 m² | 14 to 30 knots | 80 kg |
There are two key takeaways from this table. First, the wind ranges overlap significantly: at 4 m², everyone will be riding between 15 and 25 knots. Second, the low end of the wind range is a manufacturer's promise, not a guarantee. At 13 or 14 knots with a 4 m² wing, you'll need to do a fair bit of pumping. If your local spot is often under 15 knots, you should look directly at 5 m² and larger wings: the Pocket Rocket V2 5.7 m² (10 to 22 knots), Quest 6 m² (11 to 19), Frigate V2 6.5 m² (10 to 20), POW 2 5.5 m² (10 to 20), or Afterburner 6.5 m² (8 to 19).
Conversely, a 2 or 2.5 m² wing is only useful above 25 knots. This is a second wing for your quiver, not your first.

One model from our range isn't in the table. The F-One Plume isn't a parawing; it's a K-Wing with an inflatable Leading Edge. We compared it to pocket wings in a dedicated guide. Right now, it's half price, under €500 for the remaining 3.5 and 4.2 m² models.
Our top picks for beginners
Sweet deals: 2025 parawings at -40% and unique finds
The real sweet spot for beginners is last year's model. A 2025 Pocket Rocket or a Frigate V1 flies just like it did last year. While manufacturers have updated the bar, bridle, and fabric, the core principle of the wing remains the same. Ozone revised the bar and bridle on the V2. F-One added battens and changed the fabric on the Frigate V2. At -40%, you can get a complete wing with a bar for the price of an entry-level foil. Here are the sizes remaining as of October 15, 2026, with the discounted price per size (catalog price, crossed out on the product sheet):
| Model | Size | Discounted price | Discount | Who is it for? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Ozone Pocket Rocket 2025 | 4.3 m² | €575 | -40 % | 70 to 85 kg, 13 to 27 knots: the quintessential first wing |
| The Ozone Pocket Rocket 2025 | 3.6 m² | €587 | -40 % | For lighter riders or windy spots, 14 to 30 knots |
| The Ozone Pocket Rocket 2025 | 5 m² | €599 | -40 % | For riders over 85 kg or in light wind, 12 to 24 knots |
| The F-One Frigate V1 | 3.5 m² | €659 | -40 % | The most available size, 20 to 30 knots |
| The F-One Frigate V1 | 4.7 m² | €719 | -40 % | Moderate wind, 14 to 22 knots |
| The F-One Frigate V1 | 2.5 and 3 m² | 599 and €629 | -40 % | Strong wind, second wing |
| Flysurfer POW 2025 | 4 m² | €659 | -40 % | Easy to steer, 3 in stock |
| Eleveight Chute V1 2026 | 4 m² | €699 | -30 % | Current model year, one piece |
| F-One Plume 2025 (K-Wing) | 3.5 and 4.2 m² | 479.50 and €499.50 | -50 % | This wing features an inflatable Leading Edge, so it's not a parawing. Make sure to read our comparison for more details. |
As of October 15th, we also have two second-hand units, thoroughly inspected in-store, ready to go: a Duotone Stash 4 m² 2026 for €685 (new price €979) and an Ozone PowerPack 4.3 m² 2026 for €840.65 (new price €989). These are unique items, so it's first come, first served! Our wing foil second-hand section is updated in real-time.
When you're eyeing a sale, keep these two rules in mind to avoid disappointment. First, consider the size: a 2.5 m² wing at -40% won't do an 80 kg rider any good in 15 knots. Second, always check what's included: the 2025 Ozone and F-One models come with their bar, and the POW 2025 includes its carbon handle, but none of them come with a harness or leash.
Which model for which rider profile?
So you're new to parawing and coming from wing foil. The Ozone Pocket Rocket V2 in 4.3 m² is perfect if you weigh between 70 and 85 kg. Ozone calls it the most versatile wing in their lineup. It is designed for everyone from beginners to advanced riders. It comes in seven sizes and includes a **carbon bar**. The F-One Quest in 4 m² is a strong contender in the same category. It offers eight sizes from 2 to 6 m² and caters to “all levels,” according to F-One.
For the easiest wing to pack and relaunch, you'll want the Flysurfer POW 2. Flysurfer has refined the bridle and removed the pulley from the original POW. This range offers the lowest starting price among the 2026 models, at €729 for the 1.7 m². As of October 15th, only the 4 m² is in stock.
If you primarily ride in waves, check out the Duotone Stash. Duotone positions it as a top choice for wave and downwind riding. Alternatively, the CORE Lotus was designed by CORE specifically for foilers new to parawing who want to maximize their time on waves. The Lotus is currently available for order.
On a tight budget? The Ozone Pocket Rocket 2025 is currently 40% off! We still have 3.6, 4.3, and 5 m² sizes available between 575 and €599. You can find all the details in our good deals section. This is the same family as the V2, and it comes with a 40 cm carbon bar. Another great option is the F-One Frigate V1, priced from 599 to €719 for the remaining sizes. In either case, make sure you get the size that truly fits your needs; a sale on a 2.5 m² wing is useless for an 80 kg rider.
Looking for a new wing from the current model year at a low price? The ALTIS Focus, ranging from 685 to €775 depending on size, is advertised by ALTIS for riders from beginner to expert. It includes the bar and harness line. We had Hydro Gav test it before putting it in stock.
If you already have a parawing and are looking for improved upwind performance and speed, consider the F-One Frigate V2 (featuring eleven battens compared to nine on the V1, and a new fabric), the ALTIS Focus Hybrid, or, for long distances and light wind, the Ozone Afterburner. Ozone claims it can perform down to 8 knots in 6.5 m². None of these three are ideal as a first wing, and the Afterburner costs as much as two Focus wings.
Board, foil, harness: what you need with it
A parawing alone won't get anyone flying. The rest of your gear is just as crucial as the wing.
- The board. Downwind boards and mid-lengths, with their long and narrow design, get you up and riding earlier and let you go hands-free once the wing is packed. Your wing foil board will work fine for your first sessions if it has enough volume. We've grouped them all in the parawing boards section.
- The foil. You'll want a high-aspect ratio Front Wing that provides excellent lift. It glides for a long time. Once the wing is put away, the foil does all the work. Our wing foil guide breaks down aspect ratio and surface area.
- The harness and leash. Most parawings listed here include a harness line (ALTIS, CORE, Flysurfer ZAP, Ozone Afterburner in Fixed Loop) or integrate it into the handle (Duotone Stash). However, the harness itself and the wing leash are never included. A waist harness with a front storage pocket, like the Ozone Stash Belt, makes folding your parawing much easier.
- When it comes to your board leash, skip the coiled leash. The coiled leash you use for wing foiling will tangle in your **lines** every time you pack up your wing. This will leave you to spend your session untangling it. We recommend the retractable Ride Engine Tractable Reel Leash. Its cable stays neatly tucked away in its casing. It only extends if your board gets away. It's €129 for the waist or calf version, or you can get the casing only for €89 if you already have a waist belt (prices as of 10/15/2026).
- The helmet. When you're starting out, a wing can suddenly redeploy, and a foil can pop up without warning. A wing helmet, which you can find in our helmets section, will help prevent a session from ending badly.
No pump is needed, except for the F-One Plume.
Things to consider before buying.
The wind ranges in the table are provided by the manufacturers for a rider weighing 75 to 80 kg. Three brands (F-One, Flysurfer, Duotone) don't specify a reference body size. Eleveight doesn't publish any range at all for the Chute V1. Treat these figures as a general guide, not a guarantee.
The sale on 2025 models applies to remaining sizes, not the entire range. As of October 15th, the 2025 Pocket Rocket is only available in 3.6, 4.3, and 5 m², the Frigate V1 in 2.5, 3, 3.5, and 4.7 m², and the 2025 POW in 4 m² only.
The CORE Lotus and Flysurfer ZAP are ordered on demand from the supplier. Expect a lead time, which we'll confirm before you finalize your order.
Finally, remember that a parawing doesn't exempt you from navigation rules: lines and a folded wing are still objects in the water, so keep a safe distance from swimmers and kitesurfers.
FAQ: choosing your parawing
What size parawing for beginners?
For a rider weighing 70 to 85 kg who rides in 15 to 25 knots, a wing around 4 m²: Ozone Pocket Rocket V2 4.3 m² (13 to 27 knots according to Ozone for 80 kg), F-One Quest 4 m² (17 to 28 knots), Flysurfer POW 2 4 m² (14 to 23 knots). If you are heavier or the spot has less wind, take the next size up.
Do you need to know how to wing foil before using a parawing?
You need to know how to foil, whether wing, surf foil, or downwind. The parawing requires pumping on the foil at take-off and gliding without traction once folded. Manufacturers design all their wings for foilers.
Single skin or double skin for a first parawing?
Single skin. It is lighter, folds in seconds, and relaunches easily from the water. Flysurfer reserves double-skin foil kites, like the Flysurfer ZAP, for experts and professionals.
How much does a parawing cost?
As of October 15, 2026, prices range from €575 for a promotional 2025 Ozone Pocket Rocket to €1,799 for an Ozone Afterburner 6.5 m². 2026 beginner models are between €685 (ALTIS Focus 2.6 m²) and €1,199 (F-One Quest 6 m²), bar included.
What is the difference between a parawing and a pocket wing?
In practice, there's no difference: both terms refer to a soft wing with lines that folds in flight. F-One and Eleveight use "pocket wing," while Ozone, Flysurfer, Duotone, ALTIS, and CORE use "parawing."
Does the parawing work in light wind?
Yes, with a large size and a high-lift foil. Ozone states 8 knots for the Afterburner 6.5 m². F-One states 10 knots for the Frigate V2 6.5 m². Flysurfer states 10 knots for the POW 2 5.5 m². Below 12 knots, take-off requires a long board and pumping.
