Cold hands are often what ends a winter session. They're the first to get cold. This makes you lose feel on the bar or wing, and eventually forces you to call it a day. Our neoprene gloves and mittens, ranging from 1.5 to 5 mm, keep your hands warm without sacrificing grip. This section features five-finger gloves, mittens, open palm gloves, and three-finger lobsters, perfect for kitesurf, wing foil, and Surf. We've been riding the Atlantic all winter long from our GlissEvolution shop in Pornichet since 2005. We can help you choose the right thickness and cut for your riding style. Gloves, mittens, lobsters, or open palm gloves?
Five-finger gloves like the ION Neo Gloves 2/1 and 4/2, Claw 3/2, O'Neill Epic and Psycho Tech, Mystic Supreme, Marshall and Roam, Billabong Furnace, and Prolimit X-Stretch maintain dexterity for fine-tuning your bar and harness. For maximum warmth, mittens such as the ION Arctic Mitten 5/4 are your best bet; your fingers warm each other, though you'll sacrifice some precision. The three-finger lobster (ION Lobster Mitten 4/3, Manera Xtend Lobster) offers the perfect compromise for kiters: mitten-like warmth with a free thumb and index finger. Open palm gloves (ION Open Palm Mitten 2.5, Manera Magma Open Palm, Prolimit Xtreme) cover the back of your hand while keeping your palm in direct contact with the bar or boom. For warmer waters, ION Amara gloves offer friction protection without neoprene.
What thickness?
Choose 1.5 to 2 mm for mid-season and Surf, 3 mm for a typical Atlantic winter, and 4 to 5 mm for the coldest months or if you're prone to getting cold. A glove should fit snugly, with no air at the fingertips; otherwise, water will circulate and cool your hands.
