On the Atlantic, summer water temperatures are between 17 and 21 degrees: too cold for more than half an hour in just a lycra, but too warm for a 4/3. A summer wetsuit, like a shorty, short john, long john, or a 2/2 and 3/2 mm fullsuit, will get you through June to September and trips to warm water spots. Shorty, short john, or fullsuit?
The shorty 2/2 mm (ION Element and Seek Core Shorty, Static Shorty, Manera Seafarer Shorty, Monoshorty ION) is for water over 20 degrees and hot summer days. For wing foil and Surf in warm water, the sleeveless short john and long john (Mystic Surf Impact Short John, ION Long John) free up your shoulders. The 3/2 mm fullsuit (ION Seek Core and Seek Amp, Manera Seafarer and Xtend, O'Neill Epic, Hyperfreak and O'Riginal, Ride Engine RE_X, Prolimit Mercury) will see you through the whole Atlantic summer and cooler evenings. Go for a front zip for a better seal in kite and wing, or a back zip for easier entry.
