Updated September 2026
A complete foil includes the four parts that fly under the board: the mast, the fuselage, the front wing, and the stabilizer. Buying a kit instead of separate parts prevents compatibility issues and costs less than buying the components individually. At GlissEvolution, a shop based in Pornichet since 2005, our team of riders can help you choose the front wing area and mast length that match your weight, your level, and your riding style. This category is part of our wing foils section, along with front wings, masts, fuselages, and stabilizers sold individually. For a complete setup with a board and wing, see our wing foil packs. For more detail, check out our guide to choosing your wing foil.
What front wing surface area?
The surface area, in cm², is chosen first according to your weight and your level. To start, a rider from 75 to 85 kg will go for a front wing between 1.500 and 1.900 cm²: the foil lifts early, is forgiving, and stays stable. As you progress, you will move down to 1.000 to 1.300 cm² to gain speed and manoeuvrability in the swell. Sabfoil kits are named by their front wing surface area (Razor 737, 847, 977, 1077; Balz Pro 805, 905, 965; Leviathan 1300 and 1400), which simplifies the choice. The Eleveight GSF, RSF, and CSF kits and the Naish Wingsurfer Foil Complete cover the needs of beginner to allround riders.
What mast length?
A 75 to 85 cm mast is the right compromise for learning and for most spots: short enough to be forgiving of trim mistakes, but long enough to get over the chop. Go up to 90 or 95 cm for swell and downwind, and down to 70 cm for shallow water spots. The mast can be swapped out later by buying one individually from the wing masts section.
Aluminum or carbon?
Aluminum masts and fuselages keep the price down and handle impacts well, at the cost of being heavier and having some flex. Carbon brings rigidity, lightness, and precision, which you can really feel when pumping and at high speed. The Sabfoil Blackbird kits are available as Modular Full Carbon, which is fully dismountable, and Integrated Backtail, with a one-piece fuselage and stabilizer for more rigidity. For a first foil, an aluminum or mixed-material kit is sufficient; the move to carbon comes with experience.
Compatibility and evolution
A complete foil is a system: a brand's front wings, fuselages, and stabilizers fit together, and are rarely compatible with other brands. When you choose a kit, you are also choosing the ecosystem you will use to upgrade your foil, one wing at a time. This is a good reason to stick with a manufacturer that updates its range without changing its mounting systems, which is what Sabfoil, Eleveight, and Naish do. Lastly, check your board's foil box: most use standard tracks, but some boards require an adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
What front wing surface area for a beginner?
Between 1.500 and 1.900 cm² of front wing area for a rider weighing 75 to 85 kg. Lighter riders should go smaller; heavier riders or those at a light-wind spot should go bigger.
What's the best mast length for learning?
75 to 85 cm. It's the best compromise between forgiveness and getting through chop, and it's the length you'll keep the longest.
Complete foil or separate parts?
A complete kit for your first foil: compatibility is guaranteed and it's cheaper than buying the parts individually. You can then use separate components to upgrade your foil later on.
Will the foil fit my board?
Yes, with most boards that have a standard track system. Give us your board's make and model, and we'll check the compatibility before we ship.
Where can I buy a complete wing foil?
At GlissEvolution, online or in our Pornichet shop, with advice from experienced riders.
