Updated September 2026
The parawing, often called a pocket wing, is a soft, non-inflatable wing you hold at the end of a line connected to a belt. It folds into a sweater-sized pocket and stows away while you're riding. You open it to launch the foil and go upwind, then close it to surf bumps without hindrance. This action has transformed downwind riding over the last two seasons. At GlissEvolution, our shop in Pornichet since 2005, we ride these wings in the bay and help you choose the right size. This section is part of our wing foil universe. Also see our wings, parawing boards, and foils.
Parawing, Pocket Wing, K-Wing: All the Same
The term parawing has become standard. It is what brands and riders use today. Pocket wing means the same thing and remains widely used, especially by those who discovered the discipline with the first Ozone Pocket Rocket. The k-wing is a variation. If you are looking for one, you are in the right place for the other.
Two Ways to Fly
The models in this section fall into two families. They cater to different riders.
- Pure parawings, like the Altis Focus, the F-ONE Frigate, or the Ozone Pocket Rocket, are a soft sail and a line, nothing else. They offer maximum compactness and instant storage. Steering them requires a few learning sessions.
- Hybrids, like the Altis Focus Hybrid, include a bit of structure. This increases stability and upwind hold, at the cost of a slightly larger folded volume. This is often the best entry point.
Our opinion after a full season: if this is your first parawing, the hybrid is much more forgiving. You will then move to a pure parawing without regretting the purchase.
What Size Parawing?
Choose a parawing larger than your classic wing for the same wind range. This is because it performs less efficiently upwind and is primarily used for launching. Go one size up from your usual wing in light winds. Keep a second, smaller surface if you often ride in established winds. Ranges generally go from 2 to 5 m², and most riders use two sizes.
What You Need Around It
The parawing connects to a belt via a harness line, freeing up your arms and allowing you to stow the wing while riding. You'll also need a suitable leash. For boards, long, thin shapes like midlength or downwind boards are most comfortable; they launch with a paddle or a parawing. You can find them in our parawing boards section.
What's the Budget for a Parawing?
As of 09/04/2026, the range is from €519 to €1,539. Most of the range is between €680 and €1,000, with the highest-performance models above that. We also offer inspected gear in our second-hand wingfoil section. This is a great way to try the discipline before buying new equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a parawing?
This soft wing has no inflatable structure. It is ultra-compact and attaches to a line connected to a belt. It stores in a pocket while riding. It is mainly used for downwind and freefly. It is also called a pocket wing.
Parawing or pocket wing: what is the difference?
There is no difference. These are two names for the same item. Parawing is the term brands use today. Pocket wing was the first-generation term, and it remains very common.
Parawing or classic wing?
The classic wing is simpler, more versatile, and goes upwind better. It is the one to choose for beginners. The parawing is more technical but offers unbeatable compactness. It is made for downwind and long rides.
What size parawing should you choose?
